California Speedway will be the first race course in the 2005 NASCAR Nextel Cup Series to implement Saturday afternoon qualifying during the February 25-27 NASCAR triple-header weekend. This means that all cars will be impounded following their qualifying session, so that teams will not be permitted to work on the cars and will have to focus their efforts on preparing for race set-ups starting with the all-important practice sessions on Friday.
