The Philadelphia Eagles date back to the earliest days of professional football. In those days, football popularity took a very definite back seat to America’s most popular sports which were baseball and professional boxing.

In 1933, a syndicate headed by Bert Bell and Lud Wray was awarded a Frankford Yellow Jackets franchise. The club was later christened the "Eagles" which was then a symbol of President Roosevelt’s National Recovery Act in honor of the President’s New Deal.

On November 12, 1933 the Eagles battled to a 3-3 tie with the Chicago Bears at Baker Bowl in Philadelphia’s first Sunday game. The year 1939 was a landmark year for the Eagles. On October 22nd, they were the participating team in the first-ever televised pro football game at Brooklyn’s Ebbets Field. The Eagles fell to the Brooklyn Dodgers football team 23-14. The game was broadcast to the approximately 1,000 television sets then operating in Brooklyn.

In 1940, the Eagles switched their home playing site from Municipal Stadium to Shibe Park. After several additional home field relocations, the team is now settled at Lincoln Financial Field. The Eagles won their first National Football League Championship at Shibe Park in 1948, shutting down the Chicago Cardinals 7-0, despite near zero visibility in a blinding snowstorm. In 1949, the Eagles continued their victory streak - winning their third straight Eastern Division Title and retaining their NFL Championship - crushing the Los Angeles Rams 14-0.
